![]() I'm running MakeMKV v1.14.3 on Linux, using the precompiled binaries provided by Flathub. Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' At this point the disc was no longer detected in the drive, as when it was crashing in Kodi and VLC Decided to try Love Live S1 Disc 1 (FHD) and successfully dumped all 41. The second disc ("MMA3912") doesn't give the error message described above (nor do other anime DVDs, either from Madman Entertainment, or from Siren Visual). The collection has the product code "MMB390", while the first disc is labelled "MMA3911". ![]() The disc in question is the first DVD in Madman Entertainment's "Fate/stay night Complete Collection". The mkv created by MakeMKV for this DVD is invalid the resultant mkv is longer than the movie duration by about 10s (see chapter times below). That error message occurred twice: the first time was when I inserted the DVD into the drive, and the second time was when I told MakeMKV to open the DVD. This is a really old DVD from 2001, and I am thinking that somehow the DVD ifo is incorrect. It still reads and rips other blurays or even 4K blurays just fine. Even reinstalled MakeMKV removing all traces before reinstalling. I also tried swapping cables and USB ports. I tried cleaning the lens but did not work. I've ripped the disc with debug logging and AV sync messages enabled, and attached the log file. Everything mentioned in on the website says pretty much every time this happens the drive is bad. ![]() I also tried the disc in a different optical drive, with the same result. The DVD looked almost spotless the first time I attempted to open it with MakeMKV, but just in case, I tried cleaning the disc with a microfibre cloth, only to end up with the same result. When I put the DVD in the drive, MakeMKV gives the error message "Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:READ OF SCRAMBLED SECTOR WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION' occurred while reading 'BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506CB TS02' at offset '1048576'". The "makemkvcon" binary uses /sys/bus/scsi (which isn't provided by linsysfs) to find optical drives.I've been getting error messages when attempting to rip a specific DVD, but other DVDs have ripped fine in the same optical drive. Therefore I included a script to fake the relevant structure based on camcontrol output. I can't do that in the original location, because that wouldn't work on machines that have linsysfs mounted. Code: Select all Drive Information OS device name: DeviceCdRom0 Current profile: BD-ROM Manufacturer: MATSHITA Product: BD-MLT UJ260AF Revision: 1.00 Serial number: WQ30 007781 Bus encryption flags: 1B Highest AACS version: 25 Disc Information Label: GAMEOFTHRONESD1 Timestamp: 11:22:04 Data capacity: 43. The pathname used must not be longer than the original because I'm patching it into the makemkvcon binary with sed. It was the same version as the one I was running that was giving me the 'ILLEGAL REQUEST' errors. ![]() Maybe /compat/linux/opt/makemkv would be a better choice, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to put files there that don't come from a linux-c* port? opt/makemkv looked like an obvious choice, as I could put almost everything right there and people will know it's a software package with its own directory. I could also separate the linux binaries and libs (putting them in their "standard" dirs) from the faked sysfs parts. But then, where to put the latter? /etc/makemkv would be short enough, but the generated files neither are really "configuration" nor do they belong to base. Fixing it may be as simple as restarting your computer, but the issue seems to be that Windows isnt talking to the drive right now. I also tried another region 1, Buffy Season 1, Disc 1, and received the same message. There's one sentence that may allow building a package for binary redistribution: The MakeMKV EULA is even linked in the gentoo package: I'll gladly try to incorporate better ideas of course :) thank you very much. It means your drive did not like the instructions MakeMKV sent it. What is going on here Its not makemkvs fault, because it wont mount to the desktop right away either. > distribution-specific package, as long as program files and this license > Linux-specific part of the Software for the purpose of creating a > In addition, as a special exception, you may extract and repackage This is the second time its happened in between only 3 out of the last 3 rips. Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:POSITIONING ERROR DETECTED BY READ OF MEDIUM 2.) Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR 3.) Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:NO SEEK COMPLETE 4.) Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:READ RETRIES EXHAUSTED 5.) Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:ILLEGAL MODE FOR THIS TRACK 6. i pulled a drive from an old blu-ray player so i could try and rip some blu-rays gifted by someone. But I assume it isn't because I have to patch the Linux binary in order to make it work on FreeBSD: I'm not sure whether this is applicable to FreeBSD as well, I'm not a lawyer.
